Broward Co. Sheriff Department Use Confiscated Drug Funds to Support Schools

The Broward Sheriff’s Department partnered with the City of Deerfield Beach, and Kiwanis to open a Community Reading Room in four of Deerfield Beach’s low-income elementary schools. Each Reading Room includes over 1,200 books, furniture, bean bag chairs and literacy based artwork. The room is a place for families to engage in reading together. Broward deputies and officers regularly visit their reading rooms to read and mentor the children. This helps children see their local law enforcement officers as friends and will help create a long-term positive image of law enforcement in their lives.

The Reading Rooms were funded from the Broward County Law Enforcement Trust Fund. The fund reinvests confiscated drug money back into the community.
